Sirius XM Radio announced today that renowned American designer and humanitarian Kenneth Cole will sit down for a special Q&A session at SiriusXM studios in New York City.
Hosted by SiriusXM Fashion Insiders’ Fern Mallis, “SiriusXM’s Town Hall with Kenneth Cole” will feature the popular designer answering questions from a live studio audience about his life, career, philanthropy and much more.
“SiriusXM’s Town Hall with Kenneth Cole,” will take place on Tuesday, February 5 at 10:00 am and will air on SiriusXM Stars channel 107 on February 7.
“I have been a longtime friend and fan of Kenneth Cole and have greatly admired his creative force both on and off the runway,” said Fern Mallis. “I am excited to kick off Fashion Week programming with this special broadcast event.”
On Wednesday, Elijah Vielma and I trecked uptown to the 92nd Street Y to see Fern Mallis, the creator of Fashion Week in New York, interview fashion legend Betsey Johnson. The interview went well over the normal ninety minutes allotted for the interviews and Mallis had quite a bit of trouble getting Betsey to stay on the topics she wanted to talk about in chronological order. Betsey herself seemed restless and got up several times throughout the interview to remove articles of clothing, give dramatic demonstrations and just play with her $20,000 hair extensions ”you wouldn’t believe how much it costs to look this cheap” Johnson exclaimed.
Before Johnson started the interview, she gave her audience a special treat and treated us to her signature cartwheel. In the interview she told Fern “I’d really love to meet a great guy and fall in love again”. Betsey said she doesn’t think that she’ll be marrying for a fourth time, but told us, “I’d like to find some beautiful piece of eye candy and be in love with them. Somehow the eye candy is getting younger and younger”.
Fern kicked things off by telling us she was wearing a jacket Johnson had designed a long time ago for a charity auction.
On Wednesday night, I went to the 92nd Street Y with my friend Mario to see Fern Mallis interview Marc Jacobs. While I’ve attended Mallis’ entire series, the Marc Jacobs event was by far, much more crowded than the other talks Fern has hosted. The event sold out, the the balcony which usually sits empty was filled.
Dressed in her signature turtleneck sweater paired with sparkly Vera Wang pants, Polly Mellen held the entire auditorium at the 92Y in rapt attention on Wednesday evening during a conversation with Fern Mallis.
In about an hour and a half, the pair walked through Mellen’s noteworthy fashion history, beginning with her parent’s influence in molding her career path, following her beginnings at Lord & Taylor, and resulting in a legendary tenure atVogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Allure. To a stylish crowd that included Bruce Weber, Kate Lanphear, and Douglas Keeve, Mellen shared stories, words of advice, and a peek into moments that made up her life in the industry. ”I was the spoiled brat of the fashion world. I know it. I knew it. And I loved it,” Mellen said with her signature giggle.
